This residential development proposal, on the site of one of Glasgow’s oldest school buildings, involves a complex conversion of an existing building.
The proposals for the conversion of a historic school building in the west end of Glasgow into 67 loft-style student residences are on a site within the Woodlands Conservation Area and surrounded by both listed and unlisted buildings. However, the structure being converted (previously the Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) building) is not listed.
The project has evolved to maximise the building’s potential whilst retaining original features where possible. It has required close collaboration with a specialist design team to overcome the challenges of working within the constraints of the existing building, built in 1896 as an annexe to the Woodside Public School.
