Portman Street – a carefully executed refurbishm

Portman Street – a carefully executed refurbishment of a Grade B listed warehouse in Kinning Park, Glasgow, respecting the building’s industrial heritage, originally serving as an engine works.

Most recently repurposed as a trampoline centre, the building is in the process of being designed to be sensitively retrofitted to accommodate two innovative businesses that blend fine craftsmanship with precision engineering. Our design approach preserves the building’s architectural character while introducing contemporary internal interventions that are both thoughtful and restrained.

Honouring its historic fabric and robust proportions, the transformation celebrates continuity and reinvention, aligning the legacy of industrial ingenuity with a modern ethos of design excellence and material integrity.

HAUS are pleased to have received support from the Planning Applications Committee for a project that sits at the heart of such an important and emotive site in Glasgow.

We recognise the deep cultural and architectural significance of the context on Sauchiehall Street. Our approach has been one of careful reflection, respectful dialogue and bold vision, acknowledging the hugely challenging nature of the site.

We believe architecture must evolve through thoughtful response, and on behalf of our client House of Social, we are committed to delivering a building that both acknowledges its past and serves future generations.

A central feature of the development will be its ground-floor food hall, which will be open to the public, providing a vibrant space celebrating Glasgow’s food and music culture.

We hope it contributes positively to the city’s rich narrative and ongoing creative spirit.

Developed in collaboration with @wilsondevelopments, we have submitted proposals for 32 new apartments in Muirhouse, Motherwell.

Designed in response to the ‘Housing for Varying Needs’ standards, these one and two bedroom homes are thoughtfully laid out to provide flexible, accessible living for people of all ages and life stages.

The regeneration of this brownfield site seeks to support a strong sense of community and sustainable urban living through the careful placement of buildings in context of challenging topography and access arrangements, and indeed the importance of existing mature tree retention.

📐 CHLOÉ DOCHERTY: IN THE HAUS 📐

Outside of an exciting, developing career in architecture, our Chloé has a passion for photography, with her work recently featured in Concrete Nature’s publication ‘View from the Ordinary Pt.2’. Launched at the @tate Following this huge achievement, we wanted to share some of Chloé’s thoughts on both her work and her passion for photography.

Could you tell us more about Concrete Nature and View from the Ordinary?

“Concrete Nature is an environmentally conscious creative studio based in Glasgow creating publications, prints and hosting artistic workshops such as themed collage making. The publication View from the Ordinary is a 2-part publication which explores the charming simplicity of the everyday through selection of photography form UK based creatives.”

Do you have any definitive inspiration for your work?

“Architecture is a large part of my photography inspiration as I started getting into it as part of my studies at university, however sometimes the random ordinary moments are the best opportunities for photos, so you'll likely find me carrying a camera on a walk just in case inspiration comes along.”

What is your main photography interest?

“Film photography is my main interest as I particularly love how simple it feels using a completely manual camera (My grandpas from the 1960's) to capture beautiful images which feel like they have their own life and texture to them which can't be created any other way than with film. I particularly enjoy photographing in black and white, cutting out the noise of colour and focusing on shadows, form, and texture.”

Do you have a process and method to your work?

“I still very much enjoy experimenting and I have learned most of my skills on a manual camera, so I spend a bit of time assessing different compositions before committing to a shot.”

We look forward to sharing more of Chloé’s work in the coming months as HAUS portfolio of projects becomes a focus for photographic imagination.

Our façade at The Old Schoolhouse looking fantastic in the sun last week!

Progress continues at the former Napiershall Street School, with the new-build façades nearing completion. Taking inspiration from the neighbouring school building, the tones, textures and proportions of the existing structure have helped shape the new-build elevations.

Internal works are also approaching completion, and we’re excited to see our work on Napiershall Street come to life in the months ahead!
